NEC Corporation, a leader in IT and network technology integration, has announced a strategic partnership with Cisco to introduce a new private 5G network solution. This offering combines Cisco’s expertise in 5G Standalone (SA) Core and Cloud Control Centre with NEC’s validated radio network and systems integration services, making the solution market-ready.

The collaboration leverages Ciscoโ€™s strength in core network technologies and NECโ€™s expertise in wireless networking to implement, maintain, and support private 5G networks for enterprise clients. These services will be available either directly or through partnerships with global service providers, initially focusing on Europe and the Middle East.

NEC has established a demonstration facility and lab to showcase the full capabilities of the end-to-end solution. This setup allows customers to test various use cases that support the digital transformation of industries, such as logistics, warehousing, event venues, and airport management.

“The evolving needs for modernized 5G architecture have deepened our partnership with Cisco, advancing our joint efforts,” said Hideyuki Ogata, Senior Executive Professional, Global Network Division, NEC. “With Ciscoโ€™s industry-leading solutions and our world-class network integration expertise, we are poised to offer effective solutions to operators and various industry sectors worldwide.”

Masum Mir, Senior Vice President and General Manager of Provider Mobility at Cisco, added, “Our partnership with NEC combines our strengths to deliver innovative private 5G solutions to enterprises globally. Together, we aim to drive digital transformation and foster innovation across industries, supporting the crucial evolution of networking infrastructure for the future.”

Private 5G Networks

Private 5G networks involve deploying customized 5G infrastructureโ€”such as antennas and base stationsโ€”to meet the specific connectivity needs of an organization. This approach allows enterprises to tailor their network to optimize performance and security.

The inherent features of 5G technology, such as lower latency, make it ideal for real-time communication, which is essential for applications like the Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) and automation. Private 5G networks can support a vast number of connected devices while providing high-speed data transfer capabilities.
