Overview of Fiskarheden’s Private 5G Initiative

Today, Fiskarheden, one of Sweden’s most modern and largest private sawmills, announces a groundbreaking contract to build a private 5G network. This initiative is based on a solution from Radtonics, a challenger in the industrial private 5G network market. As part of the agreement, Radtonics will deliver the 5G build-out at the Fiskarheden facility in Transtrand, Sweden. Following the deregulation of the private 5G market in Sweden in early 2022, Fiskarheden is one of the first companies to take advantage of this and build its own network.

Overcoming WiFi Limitations for Enhanced Production

Fiskarheden needed to overcome the limitations of its existing WiFi network. The challenges included achieving efficient and sustainable production, ensuring workplace safety, and staying at the forefront of digitalization in the sawmill industry.

Radtonics’ Innovative Private 5G Solution

Radtonics, a Swedish-based company with global ambitions, developed a unique solution for private industrial networks for 5G. This solution enables high-quality industrial networks to be built easily, automatically, and affordably. Radtonics will design and build the 5G network, leveraging technology from Airspan Networks, a leading LTE/5G RAN hardware and software vendor.

Radtonics’ Proven Track Record with Airspan Networks Technology

Radtonics’ track record in providing secure and powerful private wireless networks has been impressive. The integration of 5G radio in their solution specifically targets industrial networks. With more than 100 private networks deployed worldwide by Airspan Networks, Fiskarheden can trust the reliability and effectiveness of their new 5G network.

Why Fiskarheden Chose Radtonics and Airspan Networks

The decision to partner with Radtonics was influenced by their innovative approach and the proven success of Airspan Networks‘ technology. This partnership ensures that Fiskarheden will have a robust and future-proof network capable of handling advanced industrial use cases.

Key Advantages of Fiskarheden’s Private 5G Network

Implementing a private 5G network will propel Fiskarheden into becoming one of Europe’s top five most digitalized sawmills. The benefits include:

  • Enhanced efficiency and sustainability in production
  • Improved workplace safety
  • The ability to implement advanced industrial applications and IoT solutions

Implications of Private 5G for Swedish Enterprises

This move sets a precedent for other enterprises in the Swedish market. The potential for private 5G networks to transform industrial operations is significant, offering increased innovation and efficiency across various sectors.

Fiskarheden’s Commitment to Digitalization

“At Fiskarheden, we are committed to being a leader in digitalization,” said Sven Erik Andersson, CIO at Fiskarheden. “By implementing a 5G network and partnering with Radtonics, we are excited about the possibilities ahead. We see now is the time for a private 5G network to become the foundation for our high-quality industrial network.”

Radtonics and Airspan Networks’ Contributions

Patric Lind, CEO and co-founder of Radtonics, expressed pride in being selected for this project. “The unique solution we will deliver, with the integration of 5G radio, targets industrial networks. We see similar needs from many enterprises in the Swedish market,” he said. Henrik Smith-Petersen, CSMO at Airspan, added, “5G for business, specifically in industrial applications such as this, has huge potential to increase innovation and efficiency for many organizations.”

Project Commencement and Immediate Actions

The 5G network build-out at the Fiskarheden facility in Transtrand, Sweden, is set to commence immediately. This project marks a significant step in Fiskarheden’s digital transformation journey.

The project is expected to be completed within the next few months, with full deployment and operational status anticipated by the end of the year.
