Industry 4.0

T-Mobile US expanded its Advanced Network Solutions portfolio with Edge Control and T-Platform, aiming to deliver private network-like performance over its nationwide 5G-Advanced footprint while simplifying how enterprises deploy, govern, and scale edge workloads. Edge Control enables cellular traffic to exit locally and flow directly into an enterpriseโ€™s edge compute environment, rather than traversing centralized cores or the public internet. T-Platform is T-Mobileโ€™s customer portal for managing business services, including Edge Control. Traditional MEC offers low-latency access to hyperscaler edge zones but often relies on internet or backhaul paths that add jitter and sovereignty concerns.
India Mobile Congress 2025 in New Delhi framed a clear ambition: scale domestic innovation, shape 6G, and turn telecom into a larger engine of GDP growth. Leaders underscored a whole-of-government approach, with multiple ministries backing IMC and the Department of Telecommunications and the Cellular Operators Association of India co-hosting. Indiaโ€™s telecom and digital sector is estimated to contribute roughly 12โ€“14% to GDP today. Leaders at IMC projected this could reach about 20% by the mid-2030s if India scales advanced connectivity, software-led services, and domestic manufacturing. Indiaโ€™s 6G push was tied to a potential GDP uplift exceeding a trillion dollars by 2035.
Thailandโ€™s National Broadcasting and Telecommunications Commission (NBTC) plans to allocate 100 MHz in the 4.8 GHz range to factories and industrial estate operators to deploy non-public 5G networks under a private network operator (PNO) framework. The spectrum is to be granted on request and used solely for internal, non-commercial operations. Mobile operators may bid for PNO rights but cannot use this spectrum for public mobile service. The 4.8 GHz range sits within 3GPP Band n79, which means a relatively deep device and radio ecosystem that can lower total cost of ownership and accelerate time-to-deploy.
Indiaโ€™s first Private 5G Captive Non-Public Network (CNPN) is now operational at Numaligarh Refinery in Assam, thanks to BSNL and NRL. This private 5G network supports real-time IoT, AI-driven analytics, and AR/VR-based workforce training, setting a new benchmark in refinery automation and cybersecurity. A major step for Digital Assam and the Atmanirbhar Bharat mission.
Private 5G is poised to transform Indiaโ€™s telecom and industrial landscape, enabling Industry 4.0 through automation, AI, and ultra-reliable connectivity. At the 5GCongress, TRAI chief AK Lahoti and DoTโ€™s Manish Sinha projected โ‚น4 lakh crore revenue for the telecom sector by 2026, highlighting private 5Gโ€™s critical role in enhancing machine-to-machine communication, operational efficiency, and real-time data exchange. Government support through spectrum allocation and Make in India initiatives further boosts industry momentum.
Alcatel-Lucent Enterprise has launched its first Private 5G solution in partnership with Celona. This new offering enhances secure, low-latency connectivity across enterprise environments like manufacturing plants, ports, and campuses. Integrated with ALEโ€™s OmniVista, OmniSwitch, and OmniAccess Stellar platforms, the network supports ultra-reliable industrial IoT applications and introduces advanced features like MicroSlicing, Aerloc, and Zero Trust Network Access.
Nokia introduces MX Context, an AI-powered sensor fusion solution that integrates multi-modal IoT data with private 5G networks for enhanced automation, efficiency, and worker safety. By eliminating data silos, MX Context provides real-time situational awareness, optimizes asset tracking, and enables low-code industrial automation. Learn how this AI-driven innovation is transforming Industry 4.0.
