Key Highlights

  • Industry-Leading Innovation: AT&T introduces the first-ever business device that merges AT&T Business Fiber with 5G for automatic internet failover.
  • Reliable Connectivity: This integrated gateway combines fiber and 5G, ensuring consistent, uninterrupted service.
  • Automatic Failover: The device switches seamlessly to AT&T’s 5G network in the rare case of fiber outages, providing businesses with steady connectivity from a single, convenient device.

Nationwide Rollout of AT&T’s Fiber and 5G Gateway Coming in 2024

Starting early next year, AT&T’s innovative gateway will be accessible nationwide for select new AT&T Business Fiber customers who subscribe to speeds of 1 Gbps or higher. This new gateway, the first of its kind for business customers, combines high-speed fiber internet with 5G backup to maintain continuous connectivity. In the event of a fiber interruption, the device will automatically switch to AT&T’s 5G network (where available) and revert to fiber when service is restored, allowing businesses to remain connected without manual intervention.

This unique solution will initially roll out in Arkansas, California, Kansas, Missouri, Nevada, Oklahoma, and Texas.

The Importance of Reliable Business Connectivity and How AT&T Delivers

For businesses, connectivity issues can mean lost revenue, productivity setbacks, and customer dissatisfaction. AT&T’s integrated gateway provides a seamless convergence of fiber and 5G wireless networks in a single device, helping to prevent disruptions. This device is particularly beneficial for businesses with lean operational teams, offering a simple, effective way to maintain operations during outages.

Key Features of AT&T’s Fiber and 5G Integrated Gateway

  • 5G-Enabled Connectivity: AT&T’s integrated gateway is the first to combine AT&T Business Fiber and 5G backup in a single device, preventing productivity loss and disruptions during unexpected internet outages.
  • 5G Network Speeds: With access to AT&T’s 5G network, the device offers faster speeds than typical 4G/LTE failover solutions.
  • Wi-Fi 6E Technology: Equipped with Wi-Fi 6E, the gateway provides faster, more reliable connections and greater coverage by utilizing the new 6GHz band, suitable for high-traffic environments.
  • Automatic Failover and Recovery: In the event of a fiber outage, the device seamlessly transitions to the wireless backup network, then switches back to fiber when service resumes, minimizing downtime.
  • Cost-Effective Solution: The single-box solution reduces the need for additional IT resources and the costs associated with prolonged downtimes.
  • Integrated Design for Simplified Deployment: By merging all fiber and 5G wireless functionalities into a single device, deployment across business locations is streamlined and efficient.

How AT&T’s New Gateway Keeps Businesses Connected During Outages

Mike Troiano, AT&T Business’s Senior Vice President of Business Products, emphasized the innovation behind this device as part of AT&T’s ongoing commitment to reliable business connectivity. “Our first integrated device marks a transformative milestone in connectivity,” Troiano said. “As digital transformation progresses, businesses need converged solutions more than ever. AT&T is leading the industry with a robust infrastructure of fiber broadband and wireless to support businesses of all sizes. This gateway is a testament to our dedication to innovation, providing businesses with connectivity tools that meet both current and future demands, helping them to grow and succeed in a rapidly changing landscape.”

Analyst Insights: The Value of AT&T’s Fiber and 5G Business Gateway

According to Will Townsend, Principal Analyst at Moor Insights & Strategy, AT&T’s decision to develop a device with automatic failover is a logical progression given its extensive investments in fiber and mobile networks. “While internet backup for businesses is not new, consolidating it into a single hardware and software solution is novel. This device is particularly advantageous for service-oriented businesses with multiple locations, which need consistent connectivity to ensure reliable operations and maximize revenue.”

How AT&T’s Fiber-5G Gateway Sets New Standards for Business Connectivity

By integrating fiber and 5G in one device, AT&T’s new gateway sets a benchmark for reliable and scalable business connectivity. The device provides a smooth, automatic transition to 5G during fiber interruptions, ensuring that businesses remain online without interruptions. This innovative gateway exemplifies AT&T’s commitment to pioneering connectivity solutions that drive productivity, reduce costs, and enhance operational resilience.

Automotive digitization now hinges on 5G’s ability to deliver reliable, low-latency, and scalable connectivity that 4G/LTE cannot sustain for safety-critical use cases. Advanced driver assistance, cooperative perception, and remote operations require millisecond-class response and deterministic reliability across dense traffic conditions. 5G Standalone (SA) with Ultra-Reliable Low-Latency Communications (URLLC), improved positioning, and enhanced uplink meets these thresholds, enabling vehicles and infrastructure to exchange time-sensitive data continuously. This is the foundation for C-V2X, high-fidelity telematics, and closed-loop control that 4G/LTE struggles to support consistently. 5G enables dynamic traffic orchestration, energy-aware routing for EVs, and advanced safety services that can reduce incidents and congestion.
A fresh class action intensifies scrutiny of Charter Communications broadband strategy and disclosures following the end of the Affordable Connectivity Program (ACP) and a sharp Q2 subscriber decline. New complaints filed in the Southern District of New York allege Charter and senior executives misled investors about the operational and financial impact of ACPs expiration. ACP, which provided a $30 per month subsidy to eligible low-income households, exhausted funding in June 2024; Charter was the largest ACP participant with more than 5 million subsidized broadband customers. In Q2 2025, Charter reported a net loss of roughly 117,000 Internet subscribers, including about 50,000 disconnects associated with ACPs end.
Google will pay a US$35.8 million (A$55 million) penalty and change how it structures Android default search agreements with Australian carriers and OEMs. The Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) alleged that Googles contracts with Telstra and Optus from December 2019 to March 2021 blocked rival search engines on carrier-sold Android devices via platform-wide default settings and revenue-sharing incentives. Google admitted the conduct likely lessened competition and agreed to court-enforceable undertakings to remove restrictions that mandated Google Search as the exclusive, out-of-the-box option across search access points (browser defaults, widgets, and in-phone settings).
The 4.44.94 GHz range offers the cleanest mix of technical performance, policy feasibility, and global alignment to move the U.S. ahead in 6G. Midband is where 6G will scale, and 4 GHz sits in the sweet spot. A contiguous 500 MHz block supports wide channels (100 MHz+), strong uplink, and macro coverage comparable to C-Band, but with more spectrum headroom. That translates into better spectral efficiency and a lower total cost per bit for nationwide deployments while still enabling dense enterprise and edge use cases.
Palo Alto Networks PAN-OS 12.1 Orion steps into this gap with a quantum-ready roadmap, a unified multicloud security fabric, expanded AI-driven protections and a new generation of next-generation firewalls (NGFWs) designed for data centers, branches and industrial edge. The release also pushes management into a single operational plane via Strata Cloud Manager, targeting lower operating cost and faster incident response. PAN-OS 12.1 automatically discovers workloads, applications, AI assets and data flows across public cloud and hybrid environments to eliminate blind spots. It continuously assesses posture, flags misconfigurations and exposures in real time and deploys protections in one click across AWS, Azure and Google Cloud.
