The company will implement four high-bandwidth networks across two key grower sites and educational institutions. The project is a collaboration between West Sussex County Council, Boldyn Networks, West Sussex Growers, Brighton University, and several commercial producers. The project is in its early stages, with the private 5G networks scheduled to go live in Q1 2025. Steve Waight, Cabinet Member for Digital Infrastructure at West Sussex County Council, emphasized the importance of digital skills in modern agriculture: “By placing education at the core, we are equipping the workforce with digital skills to utilize modern technology across fields, farms, and vineyards.”

Rachael Williams, of West Sussex Growers’ Association, stated: “5G will be a game-changer for growers, providing better data to enable improved decision-making, increasing yields and productivity.”

Fionnuala Furmston, Country Manager UK, Private Networks Europe at Boldyn Networks, added: “We’re committed to helping shape the future of farming with the support of private 5G networks to accelerate a new era for agriculture.”
