How did the initial MIA’s CBRS trials with video surveillance and Push-to-Talk shape the full network rollout?
Speaker: Johnathan Lewis, Innovation Division Director, Miami Dade Aviation Department
I want to say that the pilot took place around 2021, possibly 2022. When we first conducted that pilot, it opened up the possibility of placing infrastructure in areas where we couldn’t beforeand doing so much more quickly.
Initially, our focus was on deploying cameras in certain parts of our perimeter to improve our security posture around the campus. That was really the genesis of the project.
From there, we began to see where we could deploy and backhaul IoT devices. Then we realized we could stream video over the network. That led us to start working with vendors who began developing different appliances and devices that we wanted here at MIA devices that could natively connect to our CBRS platform.
So, that early pilot truly sparked the broader vision. It was the catalyst that made all of this possible and ultimately turned the full network rollout into a reality for us.
