U Mobile, Enfrasys Solutions, and Transocean Logistics have successfully concluded a proof-of-concept (PoC) that showcases the power of private 5G networks and artificial intelligence (AI) in the logistics industry. This pioneering initiative has automated Transocean Logisticsโ€™ container inspection process, marking a significant milestone for Malaysiaโ€™s logistics sector.

Logistics Industry Challenges and Needs

The logistics industry is often burdened with time-consuming manual inspections, inaccurate defect detection, and inefficient supply chain operations. These issues hinder operational efficiency and delay processes, necessitating a robust technological solution to streamline and enhance logistics operations.

Innovative 5G and AI Solution for Logistics

The PoC leveraged U Mobileโ€™s private 5G network capabilities and Enfrasys Solutionsโ€™ Container Vision industrial application, supported by multi-access-edge computing (MEC) and ZTE Corporationโ€™s 5G RAN and 5G Core infrastructure. This technology empowered Transocean Logisticsโ€™ inspectors to scan and detect container defects in real-time using AI at their Butterworth, Penang depot.

Benefits and Results of the 5G PoC

Key benefits of the PoC include:

  • Improved Efficiency: Transocean Logistics witnessed a remarkable 70% reduction in the time required to complete the detection process compared to existing practices.
  • Seamless Digitalization: U Mobileโ€™s low-latency, high-bandwidth private 5G network supported Enfrasys Solutionsโ€™ Container Vision application, enabling end-to-end digitalization of the container inspection process.
  • Enhanced Data Processing: MEC technology moved heavy AI processes closer to the application usage source, accelerating data processing and enabling instant defect detection and logging.
  • Streamlined Supply Chain: Integration of various upstream business applications promoted transparency among depot operators and container owners.

Strategic Integration of 5G and MEC

The integration of 5G and MEC was crucial for the PoC. 5G provided the high-speed connectivity required for real-time data processing, while MEC enabled instant defect detection and analysis, expediting corrective actions. This combination facilitated a seamless transition to digitalization, improving inspection accuracy and governance.

Key Benefits of the 5G-Powered Container Inspection

The PoC demonstrated several benefits:

  • Operational Efficiency: Significant reduction in inspection time and enhanced accuracy in defect detection.
  • Digitalization: End-to-end digitalization of the inspection process, supported by high-bandwidth 5G connectivity.
  • Data Processing: Faster data processing and instant defect detection through MEC, optimizing operational efficiency.
  • Supply Chain Management: Greater transparency and collaboration among stakeholders, enhancing the overall resilience and agility of the supply chain ecosystem.

Impact on Malaysiaโ€™s Logistics Industry

This PoC has positioned Transocean Logistics as a pioneer in adopting advanced technologies in Malaysiaโ€™s logistics sector. By leveraging the power of 5G and MEC, U Mobile, Enfrasys Solutions, and Transocean Logistics have set a new benchmark for efficiency and innovation in logistics operations.

U Mobileโ€™s Leadership in Technological Innovation

U Mobile showcased its innovation leadership through this PoC, aligning with Malaysiaโ€™s national drive to leverage technology for industrial efficiency. Woon Ooi Yuen, CTO of U Mobile, emphasized the company’s commitment to bringing about greater efficiencies for businesses through 5G technology.

Enfrasys Solutions and AI in Logistics Automation

Enfrasys Solutions played a crucial role by providing the Container Vision application and emphasizing the importance of AI and automation. CEO Tengku Razmi highlighted MEC’s potential to revolutionize enterprise applications and enhance automation.

Successful Conclusion and Future Prospects

The PoC has concluded successfully, with Transocean Logistics now officially the first container depot in Malaysia to automate critical operations using advanced technologies.

The trial spanned several months, culminating in a comprehensive evaluation of the technology’s impact on operational efficiency. The timeline included initial setup, testing phases, and final assessment.

Expert Endorsements and Insights

A leading power utility in EMEA has tapped Ceragon to refresh its nationwide missioncritical communications backbone with highpower microwave, signaling a broader acceleration in utility OT network upgrades. The multiphase program, initiated earlier in 2025, is expected to deliver approximately $8 million in revenue for Ceragon and centers on replacing endoflife systems and scaling capacity across a countrywide private network. Following a detailed technical assessment led by a regional solutions provider, the utility selected Ceragons radios over competing global vendors.
Deutsche Telekom is using hardware, pricing, and partnerships to make AI a mainstream feature set across mass-market smartphones and tablets. Deutsche Telekom introduced the T Phone 3 and T Tablet 2, branded as the AI-phone and AI-tablet, with Perplexity as the embedded assistant and a dedicated magenta button for instant access. In Germany, the AI-phone starts at 149 and the AI-tablet at 199, or one euro each when bundled with a tariff, positioning AI features at entry-level price points and shifting value to services and connectivity. The bundle includes an 18-month Perplexity Pro subscription in addition to the embedded assistant, plus three months of Picsart Pro with monthly credits, which lowers the barrier to adopting AI-powered creation and search.
Zayo has secured creditor backing to push major debt maturities to 2030, creating headroom to fund network expansion as AI-driven demand accelerates. Zayo entered into a transaction support agreement dated July 22, 2025, with holders of more than 95% of its term loans, secured notes, and unsecured notes to amend terms and extend maturities to 2030. By extending maturities, Zayo lowers refinancing risk in a higher-for-longer rate environment and preserves cash for growth capex. The move aligns with its pending $4.25 billion acquisition of Crown Castle Fibers assets and follows years of heavy investment in fiber infrastructure.

An unsolicited offer from Perplexity to acquire Googles Chrome raises immediate questions about antitrust remedies, AI distribution, and who controls the internets primary access point. Perplexity has proposed a $34.5 billion cash acquisition of Chrome and says backers are lined up to fund the deal despite the startups significantly smaller balance sheet and an estimated $18 billion valuation in recent fundraising. The bid includes commitments to keep Chromium open source, invest an additional $3 billion in the codebase, and preserve current user defaults including leaving Google as the default search engine. The timing aligns with a U.S. Department of Justice push for structural remedies after a court found Google maintained an illegal search monopoly, with a Chrome divestiture floated as a central remedy.
