How is MIA turning its private network into a revenue generator for tenants and partners?
Speaker: Johnathan Lewis, Innovation Division Director, Miami Dade Aviation Department
We do have revenue-generating opportunities that weโre creating through the private network. Within the aviation community, we operate whatโs called a Shared Tenant Services program. It functions much like a cable or broadband company. We sell services such as CATV or IPTV, internet, telephony, cabling installation, smart-hands support, and wireless/Wi-Fi services for our tenants.
One of our newest service offerings is private cellular services. We can leverage that for baggage handling operations, as well as for tenants and concessionaires. It can support their point-of-sale devices, mobile kiosks, tablets, and other operational tools. All of this is part of our broader monetization strategy.
In addition, we’re evaluating opportunities within our aircraft turnaround platform to potentially monetize that environment as well.
Another promising area involves deploying a Moken Gateway, which would allow us to extend public carrier signals into areas of the airport campus where coverage is limited. That becomes another opportunity to monetize and generate new revenue streams.
So really โ everything is on the table. There are many avenues to generate revenue from the private wireless network, and weโre actively pursuing them
