Multi-Vendor Solution Demonstrates Autonomous, Sustainable & Secure 5G RAN Networks at MWC 2023

EnterpriseWeb, in collaboration with Intel, Red Hat, Fortinet, Keysight, KX, and Tech Mahindra, to present an integrated multi-vendor solution.

NEW YORK, USA, February 20, 2023 /EINPresswire.com/ — An all-star team of Telecom vendors, including Intel (https://www.intel.com), Red Hat (https://www.redhat.com), Fortinet (https://www.fortinet.com), Keysight (https://www.keysight.com), KX (https://kx.com), Tech Mahindra (https://www.techmahindra.com), and EnterpriseWeb (https://enterpriseweb.com) will be showcasing Stage 3 of their collaborative, award-winning 5G RAN testbed at MWC 2023 being held February 27th โ€“ March 2nd at the Fira Gran Via in Barcelona.

The multi-vendor solution features a secure edge gateway (SASE) use case. The testbed demonstrates the dynamic configuration of Intel Xeon Scalable processors, Intel Ethernet 800 Series Controllers, Intel FlexRAN reference software, and Intel Smart Edge along with network functions to optimize the processing of secure packets while significantly reducing resource requirements and energy consumption at scale.

Network edge computing is not just the periphery of the Telecom infrastructure; itโ€™s also the frontier of NextGen network and service management. Unlike the bountiful resources at the core of the conceptually unlimited resources of the cloud, edge deployments are decentralized, numerous, and constrained. At the edge โ€“ continuous optimization and efficiency are a necessity.

Telco edge platforms must do โ€˜more with lessโ€™. They have to flexibly support a wide variety of use cases and configurations for diverse Enterprise workloads while maintaining low-latency SLAs of public and private MEC, all within resource and power constraints of edge servers. The extreme demands of edge computing are driving innovation through the automation stack from the application layer down to the hardware.

The testbed leverages the software-defined infrastructure and utilizes a breadth of Intelโ€™s network and edge solutions. As a programmable infrastructure, it exposes standard interfaces over low-level network infrastructure and allows intelligent orchestrators to configure those physical and virtual components to drive continuous optimizations and reduced energy consumption in response to changing traffic patterns and attacks.

Intel Network Builders recently hosted a webinar to present the latest stage 3 demo of the testbed. A replay of the webinar can be found here – https://networkbuilders.intel.com/university/webcasts/extreme-automation-at-the-network-edge

In Barcelona, Communication Service Providers will be able to see how they can achieve predictable low latency and power consumption at scale.

TELUS moved beyond experiments to enterprise adoption: 57,000 employees actively use gen AI, more than 13,000 custom AI solutions are in production, and 47 large-scale solutions have generated over $90 million in benefits to date. Time savings exceed 500,000 hours, driven by an average of roughly 40 minutes saved per AI interaction. The scale is notable: Fuel iX now processes on the order of 100 billion tokens per month, a signal that the platform is embedded in day-to-day work rather than isolated to innovation teams. TELUS designed for trust from the start: its Fuel iXpowered customer support tool achieved ISO 31700-1 Privacy by Design certification, a first for a gen AI solution.
AT&T has agreed to acquire approximately 50 MHz of low- and mid-band spectrum licenses from EchoStar for about $23 billion in cash, a move that could reset capacity economics and regulatory debates across U.S. mobile and satellite markets. The transaction adds a significant block of licensed spectrum covering more than 400 U.S. markets, with closing targeted for mid-2026 pending regulatory approvals and customary conditions. Strategically, this portfolio densifies AT&Tโ€™s spectrum layer cake and narrows the mid-band depth gap with competitors in key markets, improving headroom for consumer, enterprise, and public-sector growth over the next five to seven years.
India’s telecom usage is now predominantly indoors, and TRAI’s new property rating framework puts digital connectivity on par with core utilities. TRAI’s chairperson flagged a decisive shift: most mobile data is consumed inside homes, offices, malls, hospitals, and transit hubs. Connectivity inside buildings is moving from convenience to necessity. TRAI’s 2024 Regulations introduce a voluntary, performance-based star rating that assesses how ready a property is to deliver high-quality broadband and mobile connectivity. The framework encourages developers to embed Digital Connectivity Infrastructure (DCI) at design stage, aligns with Digital India and Smart Cities Mission, and invites ministries and agencies to incorporate DCI into guidelines, tenders, and training.
Low Earth orbit broadband is bifurcating into Western- and China-led ecosystems, with strategic consequences for telecom and cloud connectivity worldwide. Starlink’s scale in the West is meeting a fast-maturing Chinese counterweight centered on state-backed constellations and a growing commercial space sector. The result is a split that will influence landing rights, equipment supply, data sovereignty, and service availability across regions. Three forces are converging: mass-production launch capability, maturing inter-satellite optical links, and rising demand for resilient, low-latency backhaul. Governments are also reclassifying satellite broadband as critical infrastructure, accelerating public funding and procurement pipelines. Demonstrated high-rate laser crosslinks indicate a credible trajectory toward in-space backbones that rival Western systems.
