Deutsche Telekom’s early live results showing up to 65% energy savings in its 5G core spotlight a pragmatic path to cut opex and carbon as traffic surges and standalone 5G scales. Operators have wrung out much of the easy efficiency from hardware refreshes; the next gains come from software-driven, demand-aware control. DT is applying that logic to the core, shifting components to run only when needed rather than idling at full power. The results are enabled by DT’s “Horizontal Telco Cloud,” a unified, standards-based platform that replaces fragmented stacks with one common layer for core services. Initial live-network tests have been completed, with broader rollout planned and further detail expected at MWC Barcelona 2026.
Amdocs is launching aOS, an agentic operating system for telecom, to move CSPs from AI pilots to production-scale, cross-domain automation. Amdocs’ aOS targets that gap with a multi-agent architecture that automates complex workflows while keeping humans in the loop for policy and final decisions. At the foundation is a “Cognitive Core” that manages telco-specific knowledge, agent libraries, and guardrails. aOS pricing will lean on outcome-based SLAs, tying spend to measurable business impact such as resolution rates, handle-time reductions, activation velocity, or assurance KPIs. aOS is Amdocs’ bid to make agentic AI the connective tissue of telco operations.
NEC is moving to scale its cloud and SaaS business support capabilities with a $2.9 billion acquisition of CSG Systems International, positioning Netcracker at the center of the combined telecom monetization play. CSG brings a sizable recurring-revenue portfolio in digital BSS, billing, charging, and customer engagement used by communications, cable, media, and digital service providers, complementing Netcracker’s OSS/BSS, orchestration, and service automation strengths. The all-cash deal values CSG at approximately $2.9 billion on an enterprise value basis and has unanimous board approval, with closing targeted for 2026 pending CSG shareholder approval and customary antitrust and other regulatory reviews.
Discover how generative AI is transforming the telecom industry through strategic partnerships between telcos and tech vendors.
