Verizon to Power Highmark Stadium with 5G and Sustainability-Focused Services

The Buffalo Bills have named Verizon as the exclusive wireless telecommunications partner and a Founding Partner of the new Highmark Stadium, scheduled to open in 2026. This multi-faceted partnership brings Verizonโ€™s 5G capabilities to the forefront of stadium connectivity, promising improved operations, fan engagement, and long-term sustainability.

Verizon to Operate Distributed Antenna System (DAS)

As part of the agreement, Verizon will own and manage the new stadiumโ€™s neutral-host Distributed Antenna System (DAS). This infrastructure will deliver high-capacity, high-speed wireless coverage across the venue. Fans can expect seamless mobile experiencesโ€”from streaming live highlights to using mobile ticketing and cashless payments.

During stadium construction, Verizon Business is providing temporary Wi-Fi access to support design, logistics, and system installations, ensuring connectivity is embedded from day one.

5G Connectivity to Enhance Game-Day and Venue Operations

Verizon will integrate its Business Services within the stadium to support day-to-day operations, sustainability initiatives, and fan services. This includes powering connected systems across concessions, security, and stadium managementโ€”helping to streamline operations and reduce environmental impact.

โ€œVerizonโ€™s technical leadership in 5G will transform how our fans connect with the game and each other,โ€ said Pete Guelli, EVP & Chief Operating Officer, Buffalo Bills. โ€œTogether, weโ€™re creating seamless, immersive experiences that set a new standard for live sports.โ€

Verizonโ€™s 5G network will also support innovations such as real-time stats, AR-enabled fan features, and smoother access to mobile servicesโ€”making the in-stadium experience as engaging as the game itself.

Exclusive Fan Benefits and Onsite Activations

In addition to always-on connectivity, the partnership includes exclusive Verizon-branded activations. Verizon customers will have access to premium programming, sweepstakes, and in-person experiences at the stadium. These perks are designed to deepen fan loyalty and offer unique engagement opportunities throughout the NFL season.

Community Investment: Support for Local Veterans

As part of the broader initiative, Verizon is committing $40,000 to the Veterans One-Stop Center, a Buffalo-based nonprofit that provides support services to veterans, service members, and their families. This donation includes an initial $20,000 contribution in November 2024 and an additional $20,000 announced alongside the stadium partnership.

A New Era for the Buffalo Bills Stadium Experience

Highmark Stadium is designed with both fans and future expansion in mind. The venue will offer 60,000 seats with potential for increased capacity during major events. The infrastructure includes premium seating, broadcast facilities, updated locker rooms, a team store, kitchens, and cutting-edge audiovisual systems.

Stadium features also emphasize convenience and comfort. These include:

  • 360-degree concourses
  • Frictionless food and beverage markets
  • A weather-protective canopy structure
  • Enhanced signage and sound systems
