Host: Welcome to “TeckNexus TechTalk,” where we delve into the cutting-edge of technology. Today, we’re joined by a special guest, Tomas Belden, the Global Sales Head of Synchronization at Net Insight. Tomas, it’s great to have you here.
Tomas Belden: Thank you. It’s a pleasure to be here.
Host: Tomas, Net Insight has been a game-changer in the 5G landscape. Can you tell us more about what your company does?
Tomas Belden: Absolutely. At Net Insight, we specialize in providing synchronization solutions for 5G mobile operators. Our focus is not just on meeting the technical requirements but also adhering to regulatory standards. Besides synchronization, we’ve been working in broadcast networks, collaborating with telecom operators and broadcasters for over 25 years.
Host: That’s quite a legacy. Now, there’s a lot of buzz about your 5G synchronization solutions. How did your experience in broadcasting lead to this innovation?
Tomas Belden: Our deep experience in the broadcast field, particularly with synchronization solutions, laid the foundation for our venture into 5G synchronization. We’ve leveraged this knowledge to develop solutions that are both effective and cost-efficient.
Host: Speaking of effectiveness, let’s talk about your partnership with Turk Telecom. How did that come about?
Tomas Belden: Our partnership began in 2018 during the Turkish Football Federation’s TFF VAR project. Turk Telecom was providing connectivity, and Net Insight was instrumental in the delivery. This collaboration deepened when Turk Telecom began deploying their 5G network. They faced challenges with the Precision Time Protocol (PTP) technology, finding it costly for nationwide implementation. That’s where our expertise came in.
Host: What was the specific challenge they faced with synchronization?
Tomas Belden: They encountered significant issues with GNSS jamming, which disrupts 5G services. They needed a GNSS-independent solution for nationwide synchronization, which led to our development of an overlay synchronization product.
Host: That sounds like a game-changer. How does this overlay synchronization work?
Tomas Belden: Our solution, Precision Time Net or PTN, operates over asymmetric Layer 3 IP networks. Itโs unique because it doesn’t require a complete overhaul of existing networks and it works over leased lines. This makes it a cost-effective solution for nationwide 5G synchronization.
Host: And how has this solution been received by Turk Telecom?
Tomas Belden: It’s been very successful. The deployment has been smooth, and now the PTN synchronization is operational across all Turkish regions. What’s key to this success is the strong collaboration and dialogue between Net Insight, Turk Telecom, and their local integrator, Innova.
Host: It sounds like a robust partnership. Beyond telecommunications, who else can benefit from your solution?
Tomas Belden: While our primary focus has been on 5G operators, our solution is also beneficial for 4G operators using TDD. We’re also seeing interest from power grids, energy companies, and potentially the defense and financial industries. Essentially, any sector requiring GNSS-independent synchronization for nationwide coverage can benefit from our solution.
Host: Thatโs quite versatile. For our listeners who want to know more about Net Insight and your solutions, where can they find information?
Tomas Belden: They can visit our website at netinsight.net for more details.
Host: Fantastic! Tomas, thank you for sharing your insights on this revolutionary technology.
Tomas Belden: Thank you for having me. It’s been a pleasure discussing our work and its impact on the future of connectivity.
