T-Mobile and SailGP are teaming up to bring an electrifying 5G experience to fans at the Mubadala New York Sail Grand Prix at Governors Island on June 22โ€“23. T-Mobile’s 5G Advanced Network Solutions (ANS) will power the event, providing real-time data transmission, enhanced fan engagement, and a whole new way of watching high-speed sailing.

“T-Mobile is always up for a challenge,” said Callie Field, President, T-Mobile Business Group. “When SailGP offered us a chance to bring Americaโ€™s fastest 5G network to one of the worldโ€™s fastest growing global sports leagues โ€“ and to enable it to work over the New York Harbor, we were all in. Now, 5G-powered cameras will capture the action like never before โ€“ from under the boats moving at breakneck speeds โ€“ and transfer that footage to a live broadcast. This sets a new standard for how data and 5G can improve fan experiences and live event operations.”

Enhancing SailGP NYC with T-Mobile’s 5G

As SailGPโ€™s exclusive U.S. 5G partner, T-Mobile is making this yearโ€™s race even more technologically advanced and spectator-friendly. Deploying 5G ANS, including network slicing alongside 5G private and hybrid networks, T-Mobile creates a robust infrastructure to cover both land and water, ensuring mission-critical data is transmitted in real time.

Overcoming Maritime and Urban Network Challenges

The maritime environment presents demanding engineering challenges. Combined with the intricate network topology of New York City, the complexity increases exponentially. Ensuring seamless coverage and high-speed data transmission in such an environment is a significant challenge.

T-Mobile’s Advanced 5G Solutions for SailGP

T-Mobile’s cutting-edge technology solution minimizes coverage gaps and boosts reliability and data speeds, allowing fans to get dynamic views of the race from all over the course. T-Mobile and SailGP are also piloting network slicing to increase reliable bandwidth for the 5G cameras in the live broadcast and for the data from SailGPโ€™s F50 catamarans to the coaches and athletes.

Enhanced Fan Experience with 5G-Powered Cameras

Fans watching SailGP live from home will catch more action than ever before. Traditionally limited by the number of wireless cameras due to traditional infrastructure, broadcasters can now deploy more wireless high-definition cameras through T-Mobileโ€™s 5G hybrid network. New cameras like the Foil Cam will show the speed of the adrenaline-packed race like never before.

5G Technologies Powering SailGP

T-Mobile’s 5G ANS, including network slicing, 5G private, and hybrid networks, form the backbone of this innovative solution. This technology ensures robust, high-speed data transmission across both land and water.

Unprecedented Views and Real-Time Audio for Fans

  • More views of the action: Fans, both in-person and at home, will enjoy innovative visual experiences. 5G-powered cameras installed underneath all 10 boats will show new angles of the foils, illustrating super-fast speeds. New HD wireless cameras connected by T-Mobileโ€™s 5G hybrid network will provide more views of the race.
  • Real-time audio: T-Mobile is powering a new project to stream live race audio for the first time. Fans on chase boats following the F50s can hear athlete chatter during the race through 5G-powered headsets.

Setting New Standards for 5G in Live Sports

This partnership sets a new benchmark for the integration of 5G technology in live sports. The enhanced connectivity and real-time data transmission provide a richer, more immersive experience for fans and participants alike.

SailGP and T-Mobile: Innovating Together

T-Mobile for Business will be prominently featured at the SailGP Season 4 Grand Final in San Francisco on July 13-14. T-Mobile for Business is also the official 5G partner of the U.S. SailGP Team.

SailGPโ€™s partnership with T-Mobile helps raise the level of technological innovation in the sport. Testing new ideas under challenging conditions fuels creativity, offering fans, athletes, coaches, and operational teams the best possible experience in any condition.
