Mayor Kwasi Fraser is completing his fourth term as Mayor of the Town of Purcellville in Virginia and has led initiatives that successfully maintained Purcellvilleโs stellar AAA credit ratings from Standard & Poorโs and Purcellvilleโs position as the economic hub of Western Loudoun county. Under Mayor Fraserโs leadership, Purcellvilleโs outstanding debt was reduced by over $9 million, and millions of private sector dollars were invested in business ventures throughout the Town. From a smart city perspective, the Town of Purcellville established a resolution to deploy fiber, where feasible, during road construction for future ubiquitous broadband and 5G advancement. Purcellville has its own maker space, which offers 3D printing, laser cutting, plasma welding, robotics programming, and drone integration research.
In response to the COVID-19 pandemic, Mayor Fraser advanced a partnership with a biotechnology firm in collaboration with researchers at Harvard, MIT, and Brigham and Womenโs Hospital to implement an innovative wastewater-based epidemiology surveillance solution to monitor COVID-19 within the community. Fraser initiated and led the development of the largest nutrient credit bank on municipal-owned land in Virginia, with over 110,000 trees planted with close to 800 percent return on investment, and was awarded Virginia Municipal League Innovation award for Environmental Quality.
Having served on various committees of the National League of Cities, which supports 19,000 cities, towns, and villages across the United States, Fraser was appointed by EPA Administrator, Michael Regan, to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s Small Communities Advisory Subcommittee of the Local Government Advisory Committee. Fraserโs distinguished corporate career includes significant bottom-line contributions at AT&T, Sprint, and Verizon. Fraser remains focused on embracing innovation to drive efficiency, operational savings, and excellence in service delivery to all citizens, businesses, and visitors. Fraser has an MBA from Rutgers University, a Bachelor of Engineering from Stony Brook University, and an Executive Education Certificate from Harvard Business School.
