Intellian demonstrates flat panel user terminal and confirms production for OneWeb

OneWeb and Intellian, the leading global provider of multi-constellation, feature-rich, future-proof satellite user terminal and communications solutions, announce the success of their joint over-the-air demonstration, using Intellian's integrated, small form-factor Electronically Scanned Array (ESA) user terminal, operating in a live commercial network environment facilitated by OneWeb.

Maryland, USA, 12 January, 2023 – Intellian, a leading global provider of multi-constellation, feature-rich, future-proof satellite user terminal and communications solutions, and OneWeb, the low Earth orbit (LEO) satellite communications company, today announced the success of their joint over-the-air demonstration using Intellian’s flat panel technology.

At Intellian’s Advanced Development Center (ADC) in Maryland, the demonstration showcased an integrated, small form-factor Electronically Scanned Array (ESA) user terminal, operating in a live commercial network environment facilitated by OneWeb. The Intellian ESA user terminal achieved the maximum download and upload speeds supported by the OneWeb system in full duplex mode operation, with seamless beam hand-overs and satellite hand-overs.

This milestone validates Intellian’s innovative core technologies ahead of production in Q4 2023. Intellian’s ESA user terminal production will take place at their state-of-the-art factory, providing a streamlined process with exceptional product value, quality, diversity, and scalability.

The highly specialised and experienced team at Intellian helped to deliver and deploy the very first OneWeb commercial service user terminals at rapid speed. TERAGO has established Canada’s premier 5G MMwave private network for Industry 4.0 research at McMaster University’s new Manufacturing Research Institute (MMRI) in Hamilton, Ontario. Over the next three years, this network will enable researchers to test and develop advanced manufacturing technologies utilizing 5G MMwave capabilities.
According to ABI Research, 5G fixed-wireless access (FWA) services are increasingly being seen as a competitive alternative to traditional fixed broadband in both developed and emerging markets. The firm predicts that the number of 5G subscriptions of FWA could reach 72 million by 2027, which would represent 35% of the total fixed-wireless market.
Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi has introduced the Bharat 6G Vision Document, which aims to accelerate the adoption of new technology in India, and launched the 6G research and development test bed. The document was developed by a technology innovation group on 6G, consisting of members from various government ministries, research institutions, academia, standardization bodies, telecom service providers, and industry. The group will help to create a roadmap and action plans for 6G in India.

The 6G test bed, launched alongside the document, will offer a platform for industry, academic institutions, and others to test and validate evolving technologies. The government believes that these initiatives will provide an environment conducive to innovation, capacity building, and faster technology adoption in the country.
Betacom, along with its partners Axis Communications and Evolon Technology, has introduced an AI-powered perimeter surveillance solution called Betacom PSS. It offers round-the-clock physical threat detection for airports, warehouses, and manufacturing facilities, delivering results in a shorter time and at a reduced cost compared to traditional wired and public wireless solutions. BT’s UK business customers can now access edge computing services through a new long-term, multi-million-pound investment. German chemical firm BASF plans to establish a private 5G network at a facility in Belgium’s Port of Antwerp, partnering with local networking expert Citymesh. This development, which follows a series of cellular-connected Industry 4.0 trials in the region, has been dubbed “the first private 5G network” in the port by local media.
