One of the biggest lessons that emerged โ and something we now apply to all our utility customers โ is that their needs often go far beyond traditional security.
Of course, organizations like Evergy and Southern Linc look to us to strengthen their security posture, but what we discovered is that a major part of our work involves simplifying and automating network operations, especially when it comes to onboarding new devices.
For example, with Evergy, one of the primary use cases weโre focused on today is helping them add and activate devices securely, efficiently, and automatically. Many large infrastructure vendors, such as Ericsson or Nokia, design their solutions with mobile operators in mind โ companies like Verizon or AT&T that already have deep cellular expertise.
But utilities operate differently. The teams managing these networks are experts in power systems, not necessarily in cellular technology. So when they receive a shipment of, say, a thousand new SIMs that need to be registered and configured, they rely on partners like OneLayer to streamline the process โ ensuring each device is activated correctly, receives the proper profile, and is fully visible and compliant from day one.
In short, our collaboration with Evergy and Southern Linc has reinforced that operational simplicity and automation are just as critical as cybersecurity for utilities adopting private LTE and 5G networks.
