Reliance Jio’s six-plan lineup for November 2025 blends low entry pricing with AI, cloud, and OTT hooks, signaling how prepaid is evolving from pure connectivity to service-led bundles. Starting at Rs 189, Jio is segmenting prepaid users by usage intensity (voice-first, balanced data, and long-validity) while nudging them into its digital stack: JioTV for content, JioAICloud for storage, and on select offers, Google Gemini Pro for AI. As 5G coverage and usage expand, Jio’s add-ons are designed to create reasons to stay on-network and upgrade. AI benefits in prepaid are rare globally; anchoring them to eligibility criteria and higher-tier 5G plans suggests an upsell path that can improve monetization without headline tariff hikes.
A coordinated launch in the Netherlands brings standardized, network-powered security APIs to market at national scale. KPN, Odido, and Vodafone Netherlands have jointly introduced a set of security services based on CAMARA, the open-source API framework hosted by the Linux Foundation and aligned with the GSMA Open Gateway program. Working with the Dutch COIN association, the operators are exposing harmonized, privacy-aware network signals that enterprises can use to strengthen authentication and reduce online fraud. The Dutch launch prioritizes identity-centric use cases. Number Verification allows apps to confirm that a user’s device and mobile number match the current session—often silently in the background—reducing one-time password SMS dependency.
At India Mobile Congress 2025, Jio framed a broad agenda that ties devices, networks, AI skills, and safety into a national-scale digital strategy. The message from Jio’s chairman was clear: India’s telecom flywheel now spans the full value chain, from semiconductors and device platforms to fraud management and the next wave of 6G research. Telcos are shifting from pure connectivity to platform businesses that bundle devices, cloud access, security, and AI services. JioPC is positioned as an “AI-ready” computer that turns any screen into a managed endpoint, delivered through a subscription model.
Vodafone Idea (Vi) used India Mobile Congress 2025 to unveil Vi Protect, a network-integrated, AI-powered security suite aimed at stopping spam calls, fraudulent messages, and fast-moving cyber threats for both consumers and businesses. By moving detection into the network rather than relying on over-the-top apps, Vi is positioning security as a core service-level capability with lower latency, broader coverage, and tighter control. Unlike app-only caller ID and spam filtering, Vi Protect runs at the DNS, SMS, and voice gateway layers, combining AI models, web crawlers, and subscriber feedback loops. The operator says its systems have already intercepted more than 600 million scam and spam attempts.
Malaysia’s five mobile operators will federate a GSMA Open Gateway API to give banks and online retailers a consistent, cross-network tool to fight account takeovers and digital identity theft. CelcomDigi, Maxis, U Mobile, Telekom Malaysia, and YTL Communications plan to provide federated access to the GSMA Open Gateway Number Verification API, based on the CAMARA standard. The API verifies a user’s mobile number against real-time network attributes, offering a more secure, low-friction alternative to SMS one-time passwords. Network-anchored verification provides silent, possession-based authentication that reduces user friction and closes common OTP exploits. Developers can integrate once and reach all participating Malaysian networks while each operator retains control of data, policy, and monetization.
As the U.N. General Assembly convened, U.S. authorities quietly removed a dense cluster of SIM servers and cards that investigators say could have overloaded mobile networks and disrupted emergency communications across the New York metro area. Investigators seized more than 300 SIM servers and roughly 100,000 SIM cards distributed across multiple sites within 35 miles of the United Nations complex. Mass device farms can generate signaling storms that overwhelm cell sites and the mobile core, similar in effect to a distributed denial-of-service attack.
