Digital Nasional Berhad (DNB) and Ericsson have launched a national upskilling program to train 40,000 municipal and government employees in 5G, AI, IoT and automation, signaling a shift from network build to service delivery readiness. Malaysia’s 5G footprint is expanding and the country is positioning for AI-led growth by 2030. Infrastructure alone will not unlock outcomes. Cities and agencies need people who can specify, procure, secure and operate digital services at scale. This initiative targets the execution gap by training frontline staff and policy makers on how to translate connectivity into citizen services, operational efficiency and data-driven decisions.
Argentina’s regulator ENACOM has created a new licensing framework and reserved spectrum to let enterprises run stand-alone private mobile networks across critical industries. ENACOM has designated the 2300–2400 MHz band for Private Wireless Broadband Systems, a category designed for on-premise, non-public LTE/5G networks serving operational technology and enterprise applications rather than consumer subscribers. The framework supports high-throughput, low-latency, and massive IoT use cases, enabling enhanced video, automation, and machine communications across industrial campuses and field operations; 2.3 GHz maps to widely supported 3GPP Band 40 (LTE TDD) and NR n40, giving enterprises access to a mature device and radio ecosystem.
Nokia and Deutsche Bahn have activated a commercial-grade 5G Standalone network on the 1900 MHz band to validate Future Railway Mobile Communication System (FRMCS) operations on live tracks. The partners have launched a 5G SA deployment using the 1900 MHz (n101) spectrum band on DB’s digital railway test field in the Ore Mountains (Erzgebirge), Germany. The network is built with Nokia AirScale radio equipment and an optimized, cloud-native 5G core, and it operates on moving trains on outdoor tracks. The setup includes built-in failover, self-healing, and real-time monitoring to sustain service continuity in mission-critical environments.
Meril Life Sciences, headquartered in Vapi, Gujarat, has introduced the Mizzo Endo 4000, a soft tissue robotic platform engineered for general, urology, gynecology, thoracic, colorectal, bariatric, hepatobiliary, ENT, gastrointestinal, and oncology procedures. Built and designed in India, the system targets precision, access, and cost barriers that have historically limited adoption. It pairs AI-powered 3D anatomical mapping with an open console design and immersive visualization, while enabling remote collaboration and telesurgery over high-performance 5G networks. Strategically, this positions India to compete with incumbent systems from Intuitive Surgical, Medtronic, and CMR Surgical, while appealing to price-sensitive markets across Asia and Africa.
The Small Cell Forum’s 2025 Market Forecast points to a market shifting from experimentation to scaled deployment, with enterprise demand and new business models driving a faster cadence. SCF forecasts cumulative small-cell shipments to reach 61 million units by 2030, supporting an installed base of roughly 54.4–54.5 million radio units and annual vendor/integrator revenues of about USD 4.23 billion. Indoor enterprise deployments continue to dominate, representing about 60% of rollouts in 2023–2024. SCF expects 5G SA small cells to grow at a 56% CAGR through 2030, with two-thirds of enterprise small cells co-located with edge compute by 2030.
Ericsson and Thailand’s Digital Economy Promotion Agency (depa) have extended their 5G cooperation for two more years to accelerate industrial digitalization under the Thailand 4.0 agenda. The updated memorandum of understanding renews a public–private framework that began in 2022 and centers on applied 5G innovation for manufacturers, logistics providers, energy firms, and smart city programs. A focal point remains the 5G Innovation and Experience Studio (5GIX Studio) in Thailand Digital Valley, Chonburi, which functions as a testbed and service hub for advanced wireless trials, spectrum sharing scenarios, and industry-grade applications.
France’s space agency CNES has selected Capgemini, Thales, and Thales Alenia Space to lead a national demonstration of 5G direct-to-device (D2D) satellite connectivity under the France 2030 investment program. The consortium will deliver “U DESERVE 5G,” a government-backed project designed to prove that standard mobile devices and fixed terminals can connect directly to a satellite using 5G non-terrestrial network (NTN) technology. The team will launch a low Earth orbit (LEO) demonstrator satellite equipped with an active antenna payload able to form and steer beams directly to devices. The trial will evaluate interoperability with terrestrial 5G, handover behavior between networks, and user experience under varying coverage conditions
Maher Terminals has deployed Nokia’s Private 4G and Edge computing solutions to digitize operations at its 450-acre New Jersey facility. By partnering with Nokia and Future Technologies Venture LLC, the terminal now uses real-time data and rugged industrial devices to streamline cargo handling and enhance network reliability.
Fresh data from Nokia and GlobalData shows that private wireless and on-premise edge are delivering rapid ROI, unlocking AI at scale, and improving security and sustainability across industrial sites. Industrial operations need deterministic connectivity, real-time data, and strong security to automate safely and sustainably. Across 115 organizations, 87% of adopters reported a return on investment within one year after deploying private wireless with on-prem edge. Setup costs were lower than alternatives for 81% of respondents, and 86% cut ongoing costs. Critically, 94% deployed on-prem edge alongside private wireless, and 70% are already powering AI use cases.
Orange Belgium confirmed a data breach in late July 2025 that compromised the SIM card identifiers and PUK codes of over 850,000 users, significantly increasing the risk of SIM-swap and port-out fraud. Although passwords and financial data were not stolen, the exposed metadata could be exploited for identity impersonation. With GDPR and NIS2 compliance in focus, telecom operators must urgently address SIM security, MFA vulnerabilities, and customer trust through stronger authentication and breach transparency.
India's telecom usage is now predominantly indoors, and TRAI's new property rating framework puts digital connectivity on par with core utilities. TRAI's chairperson flagged a decisive shift: most mobile data is consumed inside homes, offices, malls, hospitals, and transit hubs. Connectivity inside buildings is moving from convenience to necessity. TRAI's 2024 Regulations introduce a voluntary, performance-based star rating that assesses how ready a property is to deliver high-quality broadband and mobile connectivity. The framework encourages developers to embed Digital Connectivity Infrastructure (DCI) at design stage, aligns with Digital India and Smart Cities Mission, and invites ministries and agencies to incorporate DCI into guidelines, tenders, and training.
Kyndryls' three-year, $2.25 billion plan signals an aggressive push to anchor AI-led infrastructure modernization in India's digital economy and to scale delivery across regulated industries. The $2.25 billion commitment, anchored by the Bengaluru AI lab and tied to governance and skilling programs, should accelerate enterprise-grade AI and hybrid modernization across India. Expect more co-created reference architectures, deeper public-sector engagements, and tighter integration with network and cloud partners through 2026. For telecom and large enterprises, this is a timely opportunity to industrialize AI, modernize core platforms, and raise operational resilience provided programs are governed with clear metrics, strong security, and a pragmatic path from pilot to production.
