Ericsson’s latest Mobility Report points to a clear shift: operators are turning 5G capabilities into differentiated, SLA-backed services rather than just selling more data at higher speeds. After years of building coverage and capacity, 5G networks are mature enough to commercialize features like guaranteed latency, uplink boosts, and application-aware prioritization. The catalysts are in place: more 5G Standalone (SA) cores, rising traffic from video creation and immersive apps, and enterprise demand for predictable performance across sites and clouds. The net result is momentum behind premium, differentiated connectivity that can be priced, assured, and exposed to partners.
5G standalone networks change the service model. Operators can carve the network into slices with distinct latency, reliability, and throughput characteristics validated by 3GPP standards. That enables ultra-reliable low-latency communications for factory automation, connected vehicles, remote operations, and mission-critical services. It also enables differentiated quality for cloud gaming, broadcast-like video, and IoT control loops when combined with edge computing and time-sensitive networking. Jio’s position is that treating all traffic identically under a single “internet access” umbrella can inhibit these new uses. A ruleset that preserves open internet principles for consumers yet explicitly allows specialized services with assured QoS for enterprises is what the company seeks.
A coordinated launch in the Netherlands brings standardized, network-powered security APIs to market at national scale. KPN, Odido, and Vodafone Netherlands have jointly introduced a set of security services based on CAMARA, the open-source API framework hosted by the Linux Foundation and aligned with the GSMA Open Gateway program. Working with the Dutch COIN association, the operators are exposing harmonized, privacy-aware network signals that enterprises can use to strengthen authentication and reduce online fraud. The Dutch launch prioritizes identity-centric use cases. Number Verification allows apps to confirm that a user’s device and mobile number match the current session—often silently in the background—reducing one-time password SMS dependency.
Enterprise demand is shifting from project-based consulting to managed, outcome-driven operations infused with AI and data. By combining WNS's scaled operations with Capgemini's consulting, engineering, and cloud capabilities, the company aims to capture this demand with end-to-end, AI-enabled "run and transform" offerings. The deal expands Capgemini's delivery footprint in India, strengthens its business services unit, and adds vertical platforms and playbooks that can be cross-sold to Capgemini's installed base in North America and Europe. For WNS clients, it opens access to broader transformation capabilities—cloud, data, and engineering—while preserving managed services continuity.
T-Mobile US expanded its Advanced Network Solutions portfolio with Edge Control and T-Platform, aiming to deliver private network-like performance over its nationwide 5G-Advanced footprint while simplifying how enterprises deploy, govern, and scale edge workloads. Edge Control enables cellular traffic to exit locally and flow directly into an enterprise’s edge compute environment, rather than traversing centralized cores or the public internet. T-Platform is T-Mobile’s customer portal for managing business services, including Edge Control. Traditional MEC offers low-latency access to hyperscaler edge zones but often relies on internet or backhaul paths that add jitter and sovereignty concerns.
OpenAI has acquired Roi, a New York–based personal finance startup founded in 2022 that built an AI companion to aggregate and advise on a user’s full financial footprint across stocks, crypto, DeFi, real estate, and NFTs. The move extends a year of acqui-hires at OpenAI, following Context.ai, Crossing Minds, and Alex. Personalization is becoming the moat for AI consumer products. Models are converging in capability, so durable advantage shifts to data, context, and engagement design. OpenAI’s Roi acqui-hire is less about a finance app and more about owning the personalization layer across consumer AI.
Malaysia’s five mobile operators will federate a GSMA Open Gateway API to give banks and online retailers a consistent, cross-network tool to fight account takeovers and digital identity theft. CelcomDigi, Maxis, U Mobile, Telekom Malaysia, and YTL Communications plan to provide federated access to the GSMA Open Gateway Number Verification API, based on the CAMARA standard. The API verifies a user’s mobile number against real-time network attributes, offering a more secure, low-friction alternative to SMS one-time passwords. Network-anchored verification provides silent, possession-based authentication that reduces user friction and closes common OTP exploits. Developers can integrate once and reach all participating Malaysian networks while each operator retains control of data, policy, and monetization.
Indonesia’s three leading mobile players - Telkomsel, Indosat Ooredoo Hutchison (IOH), and XLSMART -have formed a joint Telco API Alliance to standardize network-exposed APIs and harden the country’s digital ecosystem against fraud. The alliance commits all three operators to a common telco API protocol aligned with CAMARA, the open-source, Linux Foundation–hosted API project supported by the GSMA Open Gateway initiative. The initial roll-out centers on customer protection and fraud prevention—areas where network signals offer high value. SIM Swap detection flags recent SIM changes, a leading indicator of account takeover risk.
CAMARA, under the Linux Foundation, launched its Spring25 Meta-Release, introducing 13 new and 23 updated APIs. This release enhances telecom operations with improved security, notifications, and error handling, supporting global telecom standards and fostering innovation.
