TELUS moved beyond experiments to enterprise adoption: 57,000 employees actively use gen AI, more than 13,000 custom AI solutions are in production, and 47 large-scale solutions have generated over $90 million in benefits to date. Time savings exceed 500,000 hours, driven by an average of roughly 40 minutes saved per AI interaction. The scale is notable: Fuel iX now processes on the order of 100 billion tokens per month, a signal that the platform is embedded in day-to-day work rather than isolated to innovation teams. TELUS designed for trust from the start: its Fuel iXpowered customer support tool achieved ISO 31700-1 Privacy by Design certification, a first for a gen AI solution.
Low Earth orbit broadband is bifurcating into Western- and China-led ecosystems, with strategic consequences for telecom and cloud connectivity worldwide. Starlink's scale in the West is meeting a fast-maturing Chinese counterweight centered on state-backed constellations and a growing commercial space sector. The result is a split that will influence landing rights, equipment supply, data sovereignty, and service availability across regions. Three forces are converging: mass-production launch capability, maturing inter-satellite optical links, and rising demand for resilient, low-latency backhaul. Governments are also reclassifying satellite broadband as critical infrastructure, accelerating public funding and procurement pipelines. Demonstrated high-rate laser crosslinks indicate a credible trajectory toward in-space backbones that rival Western systems.
Verizon Value is rolling out enhanced prepaid international services across its Simple Mobile and Total Wireless brands, sharpening its competitive edge in global roaming and cross-border communications starting August 28, 2025. The offers blend unlimited international calling to large country sets, global texting, and expanded roaming with 5G access on Verizon's network, including 5G Ultra Wideband on select tiers. Simple Mobile adds unlimited global texting across all plans and scales international calling and data inclusions from entry to premium tiers. Total Wireless retools its unlimited structure with a five-year price guarantee (taxes and fees included), adds 95 more calling destinations (up to 180 countries on higher tiers), and doubles roaming coverage to 30+ countries.
AstraZeneca, Ericsson, Saab, SEB, and Wallenberg Investments have launched Sferical AI to build and operate a sovereign AI supercomputer that anchors Sweden's next phase of industrial digitization. Sferical AI plans to deploy two NVIDIA DGX Super PODs based on the latest DGX GB300 systems in Linkping. The installation will combine 1,152 tightly interconnected GPUs, designed for fast training and fine-tuning of large, complex models. Sovereign infrastructure addresses data residency, IP protection, and regulatory alignment, while reducing exposure to public cloud capacity swings. For Swedish and European firms navigating GDPR, NIS2, and sector-specific rules like DORA in finance, a trusted, high-performance platform can accelerate AI adoption without compromising compliance.
Apple's fall software updates introduce admin-grade switches to govern how corporate users access ChatGPT and other external AI services across iPhone, iPad, and Mac. Apple is enabling IT teams to explicitly allow or block the use of an enterprise-grade ChatGPT within Apple Intelligence, with a design that treats OpenAI as one of several possible external providers. Practically, that means admins can set policy to route requests either to Apples own stack or to a sanctioned third-party provider, and disable external routing entirely when required.
India's AI oversight for telecom is moving from recommendations to implementation, with policy review and technical workstreams running in parallel. The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India has issued recommendations on leveraging artificial intelligence and big data in telecom, including the creation of an independent statutory authority for AI governance. The proposed Artificial Intelligence and Data Authority of India (AIDAI) is envisioned to promote responsible AI development and regulate sectoral use cases. The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology has initiated projects with research bodies and universities focused on how to ensure and test AI trustworthiness.
Nvidia has reportedly paused production activities tied to its H20 data center AI GPUs for China as Beijing intensifies national-security scrutiny, clouding a long-anticipated reentry into the market. Multiple suppliers have been asked to suspend work related to the H20, Nvidia's made-for-China accelerator designed to meet U.S. export rules. The pause arrives shortly after Washington signaled it would grant export licenses for the H20, reversing an earlier halt that triggered unsold inventory write downs at Nvidia. The H20 is Nvidia's linchpin for retaining a foothold in the worlds second-largest AI market; any prolonged disruption has material revenue and ecosystem consequences.
Fresh polling signals rising public concern that AI could upend employment, destabilize politics, and strain social and energy systems. A recent Reuters/Ipsos survey of 4,446 U.S. adults found that 71% worry AI will permanently displace too many workers. Seventy-seven percent of respondents fear AI will fuel political instability if hostile actors exploit the technology. The poll also shows broad worry about AIs indirect costs: 66% are concerned about AI companions displacing human relationships, and 61% are concerned about the technology's energy footprint. Bottom line: Public concern is high, and that increases the cost of missteps.
Vantage will invest more than $25 billion to build Frontier, a 1,200-acre, 10-building campus totaling roughly 3.7 million square feet near Abilene, about 120 miles west of Dallas Fort Worth. The site is designed for ultra-high-density racks of 250kW and above, paired with liquid cooling for next-generation GPU systems. Construction has started, with first delivery targeted for the second half of 2026. Vantage expects more than 5,000 jobs through construction and operations. This is the company's largest project to date and underscores its acceleration beyond a global footprint of 36 campuses delivering nearly 2.9GW of critical IT load. Vantage is a portfolio company of Digital Bridge Group.
Alaska Air Groups move to deploy SpaceX Starlink across Alaska Airlines and Hawaiian Airlines by 2027 signals a decisive pivot to low-latency, LEO-based inflight connectivity for U.S. carriers. Inflight WiFi has moved from perk to productivity platform, and latency not just bandwidth now defines user experience for video conferences, collaboration tools, and gaming. By standardizing on Starlink's low Earth orbit (LEO) network, Alaska is targeting ground-like performance gate-to-gate across regional, narrowbody, and widebody fleets. Alaska cites sub-100 ms latency and up to 500 Mbps per aircraft, enabling real-time messaging, cloud apps, and streaming on multiple devices without gating performance to a handful of users.
SoftBank will invest $2 billion in Intel, taking roughly a 2% stake at $23 per share and becoming one of Intels largest shareholders. It is a financial vote of confidence in a company trying to reestablish process leadership, scale a foundry business, and convince marquee customers to commit to external wafer orders. SoftBank has been assembling an AI supply-chain franchise that spans IP, compute, and infrastructure. It owns Arm, agreed to acquire Arm server CPU designer Ampere Computing, injected massive capital into OpenAI, and aligned with Oracle under the Stargate hyperscale AI initiative backed by the current U.S. administration.
Vodafone Idea (Vi) and IBM are launching an AI Innovation Hub to infuse AI and automation into Vis IT and operations, aiming to boost reliability, speed delivery, and improve customer experience in Indias fast-evolving 5G market. IBM Consulting will work with Vi to co-create AI solutions, digital accelerators, and automation tooling that modernize IT service delivery and streamline business processes. The initiative illustrates how AI and automation can reshape telco IT and managed services while laying groundwork for 5G-era revenue streams. Unified DevOps across OSS/BSS enables faster rollout of plans, bundles, and digital journeys.
