Explore how 5G and Fixed Wireless Access (FWA) are transforming high-speed internet connectivity, addressing capacity crunch challenges.
As Europe sets ambitious goals for its connectivity policy, this session assessed the progress made thus far and explore the proximity to achieving these objectives. Our experts delved into the societal benefits of enhanced rural connectivity, discussing how it fosters economic growth, empowers communities, and bridges the digital divide. We also examined the technical challenges that arise in delivering connectivity to remote areas, exploring innovative solutions, the potential business case for rural connectivity and also highlighted the pivotal role of technology and innovation in realizing the vision of inclusive connectivity across rural Europe.
With the exponential growth of IoT devices expected to reach 27 billion by 2025, the risks associated with their implementation have become increasingly critical. In this session, experts in the field will provide valuable insights into the future of cyber security in IoT and discuss effective strategies for mitigating the risk factors. Discover the latest advancements in IoT security technologies, threat landscape assessments, and best practices for ensuring the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of IoT ecosystems.
The White House released a National Spectrum Strategy developed in coordination with the National Telecommunications and Information Administration (NTIA) and the Federal Communications Commission (FCC).  President Biden released a Presidential Memorandum, establishing spectrum policy and a process for resolving spectrum-related conflicts. This plan earmarks over 2,700 megahertz of airwaves for exploration and potential utilization in both the private sector and federal agencies.
The emergence of 5G Non-Terrestrial Networks (NTN) presents a revolutionary step in global digital connectivity, but it brings with it intricate regulatory and policy challenges. These directives play a pivotal role, influencing the design, services, and the very integrity of these networks. Key issues range from spectrum allocation and licensing to operational standards and the potential cyber threats these networks might face. Given the global nature of 5G NTN, coordinating regulations across international boundaries becomes paramount, as does addressing the growing concerns of space debris. Moreover, with the vast amount of data these networks handle, policies ensuring data privacy and cybersecurity are of utmost importance. Ultimately, understanding and navigating this complex regulatory landscape is crucial for the successful deployment and operation of 5G NTN.
In this session, we explored the unique opportunities and strategies that smaller countries, specifically the Baltic states, can leverage to become frontrunners in Europe’s innovation landscape. Our esteemed panelists, comprising industry leaders, policymakers, and innovators, shared their insights on building thriving technology ecosystems, fostering entrepreneurship, attracting investment, and nurturing talent in smaller countries.

We are witnessing a paradigm shift in telecommunications. Open RAN is at the forefront, emphasizing a disaggregated and open approach to network architecture. This change has the potential to redefine global communication networks by enabling interoperability, fostering innovation, and democratizing access to advanced 5G technology. However, international cooperation on the Open RAN policy is vital to harness its potential fully. Governments worldwide must embrace pro-Open RAN policies, unlock funding, and encourage cross-border investments. Join Open RAN Policy Coalition in this revolution to enhance connectivity, narrow the digital divide, and promote socio-economic development worldwide.
The UK government's approach to bridging the digital divide has come under severe scrutiny in a report by the House of Lords committee. The report highlights the absence of a credible strategy for digital inclusion, leaving millions without necessary online access. The committee calls for a new inclusion strategy, encompassing policy changes and increased digital literacy education. The report emphasizes that without substantial action, the UK's ambition to become a technological superpower is threatened, undermining the nation's productivity, economic growth, and social inclusion.
Deutsche Telekom and Ericsson have developed a secure 5G network slicing that directly connects to a private cloud, addressing enterprise concerns over adopting edge use cases. The proof-of-concept has significant implications for the future of 5G technology, particularly around network slicing, with the potential to provide premium, revenue-generating services. However, security concerns persist, highlighting the need for careful management of network slices.
